41. The Golden Calf (Exodus 32: 1 - 6)
The most known incident in Exodus was the golden calf. The Israelites made the golden calf and worshipped it as God. It not only offended God's commandments about idolatry but also affected the Israelites generations to come. Because Jeroboam committed the same sins as below.
So the king took counsel and made two calves of gold. And he said to the people, “You have gone up to Jerusalem long enough. Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.” And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. (First Kings 12: 28 29)
He set not one but two golden calves. Yet, God didn't seem to punish the Israelites enough to stop it happening again. Why's that?
